Reflections:
This assignment, completed with another cohort member and fellow 4-H Agent, enabled us to analyze marketing strategies that have been implemented at the local and state level for North Carolina 4-H. Since volunteers are a crucial part of a successful 4-H program, we wanted to look at volunteer marketing, specifically. Upon realizing that no statewide volunteer marketing efforts had ever been made, we created a volunteer marketing plan to recruit and retain volunteers in our respective counties.

After conducting a situational analysis, we created target markets along with strategies and tactics to meet our marketing goals. Through this process, we developed clear methods for recruiting volunteers and improving volunteer retention to meet the needs of our programs. This project proved highly beneficial, and the two of us were able to share our plan and its development with other 4-H and other Extension Agents at this year’s State Extension Conference. The creation of this plan was a culmination of all the lessons learned through Dr. Casper’s marketing class, and it has been beneficial for volunteer recruitment and retention within the Ashe County 4-H program.
