Reflections and Summary

Throughout my time in the PRTSM graduate program, I took two electives based upon content that I would like to incorporate through environmental education with youth I work with in the 4-H program. The first of these was the Wildland Fire Science course. In this class, I learned about fire history, science, behavior, and the management of fire in ecosystems. In a world where wildfire is often villainized, this course helped me understand the importance of fire in the landscape and how necessary fire actually is.

From readings, webinars, and fire management exercises, I feel more confident in being able to present fire science in the context of environmental education and believe this course will help me equip young people with knowledge about fire history and its importance.
